The small Central American country of Belize has more in common with its Caribbean relatives than its Central American neighbours. There are many Mayan attractions in Belize, such as the city of Lamanai, meaning submerged crocodile. Lamanai was inhabited by Mayans from as far back as 1500BC and much of the city’s infrastructure still remains. Another attraction of Belize is The Cayes. This 290km long barrier reef is the longest in the Western Hemisphere, and a diver’s dream.
